11th December 2006

Sydney, Australia - The inaugural AIMS Users group, hosted by RailCorp at their head office in Sydney was held Monday the 11th of December 2006. The purpose of the seminar was to engage AIMS users and discuss and exchange knowledge, experience and practice of the AIMS Mapping suite in each of their rail organisations. The attendees were a mix of GIS managers, track services engineers, mapping staff and field surveyors.

Som Chatterjee kicked off proceedings welcoming attendees to the inaugural AIMS Mapping User group meeting.

Geomatic Technologies (GT) presented a vision for the development of the AIMS Mapping suite. Kirstie Wu, Applications Analyst/Developer at GT, demonstrated the future photogrammetry 'object visualisation' component, "This component will support rapid asset auditing, following image recapture of rail corridors." Kirstie Wu commented. The seminar consisted of presentations and demonstrations from RailCorp and Queensland Rail including a Users Group Forum which discussed additional enhancement requirements. Following the success of the first meeting, the second meeting is in planning for mid 2007. Special thanks to Ron Lister, Manager Geospatial Services at RailCorp for hosting and chairing the inaugural meeting.
