About Geomatic Technologies

Geomatic Technologies

Geomatic Technologies specialize in capturing infrastructure data on behalf of rail, power and government customers. We employ digital laser and image acquisition technology to generate spatial asset information that our clients use to manage their networks and drive enterprise asset management and geographic information systems.

Geomatic Technologies is a leading provider of location-based business intelligence solutions. Comprised of surveyors, photogrammetrists and IT professionals our data capture services and software are licensed by passenger rail and electricity distribution companies responsible for supplying critical services to the public. Our unrivalled track record in completing national and state-wide infrastructure audits has been recognized by several long-standing clients for whom we have expanded our services to include the deployment of field workforce mobile computing systems.

GT's in-house developed Asset Inspection Mapping System (AIMS) is currently licenced by Australian and New Zealand government utilities. In 2007 the GT AIMS Laser product was recognized by the Australian Federal Government Trade Commission through receipt of an AusTrade Export Award.

Commencing in 1994, GT have successfully completed some of the largest and most complex rail and electricity infrastructure audits commissioned by utilities. In 1998 GT surveyors mobilized a suite of twenty 4WD vehicles and motorcycles with GPS, Laser and field computing software to execute an audit of Powercor Australia's entire electricity distribution network comprised of 480,000 power poles. Pole locations and attributes including cross-arms, customer service connections, transformers and streetlights were surveyed and supplied to Powercor in a spatial digital format that was designed to integrate with the Powercor enterprise Geographic Information and Asset Management systems. Our electricity services continue to this day and only last year our company successfully completed an audit of all rural and outback powerpoles in South Australia on behalf of ETSA. GT also supply field mobile workforce computing systems to power utilities to assist them manage their asset inspection and fault dispatch requirements.

The early 1990's also witnessed a demand for accurate infrastructure by rail operators who were looking for digital content to underpin their driver simulation and automatic train control systems. GT have successfully completed network-wide track alignment, track imagery and track asset mapping projects through Australian freight and passenger networks as well as on behalf of Ontrack New Zealand. GT's AIMS Laser system is used by the Victorian, New South Wales and New Zealand Governments to monitor track encroachments and perform clearance tests across track networks that total over 8,000 miles.

Products and Services Offered

We offer rail utilities data capture services in four key areas.

  1. Track Alignment Surveys to deliver accurate grade and curvature data.
  2. Track Asset Surveys to deliver an asset database of all track side and easement features with coordinate information.
  3. Track Digital Imagery.
  4. Laser surveys to analyze structure gauge encroachments and rolling stock conflicts.

We offer electricity companies a range of field survey and audit capabilities ranging from relatively straightforward streetlight audits through to the mapping of all powerpole assets with comprehensive pole furniture, customer service connections and pole to pole electrical connectivity. All data is recorded digitally in the field and supplied in customer ready GIS and Asset Management System formats.

Following the successful completion of many such asset mapping services, GT have also responded to market requirements and offer the GT Asset Inspection Mapping System (AIMS) as a licensed product that is used in turn by customer staff. Railcorp NSW (operators of the Sydney passenger rail service) and Ontrack New Zealand (operators of the Auckland and Wellington networks) both licence the GT AIMS suite of alignment, mapping, imagery and laser software.
